Catlyn Stark

Lutheran North

Family & Consumer Science Teacher

Catlyn Stark is a new addition to the Lutheran North staff who is taking over as the Family & Consumer Science teacher. Catlyn is a member at St. Peter Macomb and was a 2015 Lutheran North graduate. She attained a Hospitality and Tourism Management degree at Grand Valley State University in 2019. Since then, Catlyn has pursued a career in teaching through student teaching at Immanuel Lutheran and getting her Masters in Secondary Education at Oakland University. She grew up living in Macomb, Michigan but also lived in Grand Rapids for 5 years. Grand Rapids holds a big piece of her heart where she learned most of her food management skills in a series of internships and occupations. In her free time, Catlyn loves to travel, watch the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park, and spend time with her family and friends!

  1. What’s your role at Lutheran North?

    Family & Consumer Science Teacher

  2. Where are you from?

    Macomb, Mi

  3. When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?

    I wanted to be a teacher my whole life. When I went to LHN, I was a teachers assistant for quite a few of the staff and I loved it. I truly understood God’s plan for me to teach when I did my internship last semester at Immanuel Lutheran. It was such a wonderful environment and these Lutheran schools are truly something special.

    LHN ALUM BONUS QUESTION - What was your favorite class at Lutheran North and why?

    Foods was probably my favorite because I learned so many life skills, but a close follow up was Applied Christianity. That class was where I became closest with God in my faith walk and it was truly inspirational each and every class period.

  4. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

    Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

    Creative, Goofy, and Organized!

  6. What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

    Being a Catering and Events Intern at a venue called City Flats in Grand Rapids! Working weddings was challenging and interesting because no day was ever the same, it was always a surprise!

  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?

    I can play the ukulele!

  8. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

    Time traveling!

  9. What’s your favorite food?

    This may be a strange pick as a Foods teacher but Pizza Rolls are my jam!!!

  10. What’s your least favorite food?

    Bananas.

  11. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?

    San Diego! It is magical! the perfect temperature year round, gorgeous beaches, and fantastic food!.

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

    Greece! I want to live out my Mamma Mia dreams!

  13. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

    I lived in Florida for a year. The ultimate vacation!

  14. What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?

    Hiking.

  15. What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

    Baseball. I am a Detroit Tiger super fan! I caught a ball from Jonathon Schoop this summer!

  16. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

    A little bit of both!

  17. Are you a dog person or a cat person (neither or both)?

    Both! I have three dogs, a cat, and four ducks.

  18. What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?

    One of my favorite memories this past year was going on a trip with my college friend to visit my childhood best friend in San Diego, California! We went hiking, swimming, and did all things tourist and I miss it every day!

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

    Take risks and dont be afraid to pursue your passions. Life is about soaking in all experiences that come your way, dont be afraid to go along with the ride. My extremely successful and adventurous college professor Dr. Lorie Tuma.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?

    Follow your dreams, no matter what they entail. All that matters in your life is that you love what you do. You will excel in anything you’re passionate about. Do what makes YOU happy.
