We’re proud to announce that David Meyer has joined the Lutheran North team filling the role of science teacher. Mr. Meyer was raised on a small family farm just north of Norfolk, Nebraska. He attended Concordia University, Seward, NE where he studied Secondary Education with concentrations in Math and Biology. For the last fifteen years, he taught at West Michigan Lutheran High School in Grand Rapids. Subjects that he taught there were Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Computer Applications.
In his free time, he enjoys reading science fiction and/or fantasy novels, playing board games with family and friends, tinkering with technology (3D modeling, Raspberry Pi, etc.), taking walks with his wife, and fishing.
He and his family are currently attending St. John Lutheran Church in Frasier.

What’s your role at Lutheran North?
Science Teacher
Where are you from?
Norfolk, Nebraska
When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?
To be honest, I wanted to be a pastor like my older brother when I was in second grade. My fifth and sixth grade teacher was a great influence on me as well; yet, what really led me to pursue the path to become a Lutheran high school teacher was my Biology professor and my Calculus professor at Concordia University. They knew how to make these subjects come alive and they took a real interest in me as a student and a person. As I reflect back on my decision to become a teacher, these Concordia teachers as well as my brothers and sisters (most of whom are in church work) were a great influence on me as well.
What’s your favorite Bible verse?
Isaiah 55 -- the whole chapter.
What are three words to best describe you?
Logical, Caring and Patient.
What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
During the summer, I would herd cows along the road so the cows could eat the grass in the ditches along the sides of the road.
Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I can juggle three objects at a time (as long as the objects are not sharp).
If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
Telekinesis.
What’s your favorite food?
Medium rare sirloin steak.
What’s your least favorite food?
Lima beans.
What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?
Bruce Peninsula National Park in Canada. We had a cabin on Georgian Bay, went on hikes through the park and we were able to see old ship wrecks. Very relaxing family time.
Where would you like to travel next and why?
Europe, especially Germany. There is are so many historical places that I would like to visit as well as see where my great grandparents grew up.
What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?
I sang as a part of a chorus at Carnegie Hall in New York
What’s one hobby you’d like to get into?
Amateur radio operator, especially weather satellite imagery
What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?
Basketball is my favorite sport and I root for any Nebraska Cornhusker team.
Are you an early bird or a night owl?
Early Bird.
Are you a dog person or a cat person (neither or both)?
I enjoy all God's creation, so I am both a dog person and a cat person.
What’s one of your favorite memories from the past year?
Watching my eldest son graduate from Hillsdale College live on campus.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
Be kind to people and always treat people as you would like to be treated. This was advice from the Bible as well as my Dad.
Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?
Always do your best in all circumstances and don't be afraid to learn from your mistakes.
