2020-2021 Planning Update From the Superintendent

Dear Families of the Lutheran High School Association:

I hope and pray that your family has been healthy and that you have been able to enjoy the summer months. This summer has been unique as we consider some lingering uncertainties for the beginning of the 2020-21 school year. One certainty that remains is the critical responsibility to our students in offering opportunities for spiritual growth as we continue to guide students in their faith. Our mission, Learning for Life – Leading in Truth, will always be the foundation we have as Christian schools in the Word of God and in His promises.

As I have been careful to communicate, we are committed to face to face learning as the most beneficial educational environment we can offer. However, if we are mandated to open the school year online or transition to online during the school year, we have made plans to offer the best possible strategy for remote learning.  We have enhanced our technology practices and policies that will be conducive to our curriculum. We have developed a plan that will be seamless and quickly adaptable if we need to move from in-person to online instruction which will include a more formal schedule as well as an appropriate amount of live instruction.

We still expect to offer quality, Christian education and our faculty will continue to provide a strong curriculum through excellent instruction. However, I have recommended a tuition discount in the event of continued online instruction. The LHSA Board of Directors has approved a 10% discount of a student’s net tuition for the month if more than 50% of the scheduled school days for the month are online as salaries and benefits are typically 70% of our budgets.

We continue to pray and plan for the 2020-21 school year to begin on August 26th with students back in our buildings. Our school administrative teams have been working through the guidelines of the state’s reopening school plans as well as consulting with our Michigan Association of Non-public Schools in preparing to bring our staff and students back to safe environments. These safety protocols will be shared with families as they are finalized by each school.

My prayer for all of you is that the Lord blesses the remainder of your summer and that you continue to keep faith with our schools. The comfort, joy, and power of the Gospel will always remain the foundation of our Christian ministry!

God’s Peace!
