2020-2021 Planning Update From the Superintendent
Dear Families of the Lutheran High School Association:
I pray that all of you have been able to enjoy the summer sunshine and have been able to stay healthy physically, emotionally and most of all spiritually.
With the governor’s announcement regarding the start of school I wanted to share with you that our plan to start face to face with a five-day instructional week using our traditional schedule remains in place. As we return to the classrooms, we are pursuing a plan to maximize student learning and leadership while prioritizing the health and safety of all. We have been in the process of developing protocol for bringing our students back to our buildings considering areas of precaution and according to the specific phases for our state of Michigan including:
Screening procedures
Family responsibility
School responsibility
Physical distancing
Classrooms
Lunch process
Chapel/Assemblies
Hallways
Environmental cleaning equipment/supplies and processes
Masks
Limiting visitors on campus
Emotional health and wellness
Appropriate steps for symptomatic students
Communication with our school families
In the next several weeks we will be able to share more details on these protocols. We have every expectation that we will have plans in place with respect to the specific phases and details that have been mandated for all schools and recommendations where individual schools will determine how to safely adapt. We will be working with the local health agencies as well as the Michigan Association of Non-public Schools and our Michigan District LCMS regarding what is required of our Lutheran schools.
Remote Learning Plan:
We are committed to face to face learning as the most beneficial educational environment we can offer. However, if we are mandated to close schools in the future, we have made plans to offer the best possible strategy for remote learning. Based on information received from faculty and family surveys we have enhanced our technology practices and policies that will be conducive to our curriculum. We have developed a plan that will be seamless and quickly adaptable if we need to move from in-person to online instruction which will include a more formal schedule as well as an appropriate amount of live instruction.
Finally, most importantly, we will continue to share the Gospel. Our first responsibility to our students is to offer opportunities for spiritual growth. We will continue to help students grow in their faith. Our mission, Learning for Life – Leading in Truth, will always be the foundation we have as Christian schools in the Word of God and in His promises.
