20 QUESTIONS

  1. What’s your role at Lutheran North?

    Science Teacher

  2. Where are you from?

    Monroe, Michigan

  3. When did you know that you wanted to be in the Lutheran high school environment and what led you to pursue that path?

Growing up in LCMS schools and with lots of family that worked in Lutheran schools, I knew that I wanted to enter ministry since about 3rd grade. At first I wanted to become a pastor! But God lead me to a different path when I was inspired by the amazing examples of Christ's love that my teachers at Trinity and LHS lived out. As soon as I hit college I knew that teaching in a Lutheran school was my calling.

  4. What’s your favorite Bible verse?

My all time favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:28 which reads, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him and who have been called according to his purposes." I first heard this verse in 2nd grade memory! Eventually it became my confirmation verse. I learned that my great grandfather (Oscar Hackbarth) also choose this as his confirmation verse. It always reminds me that God will always work for our good, so there is no need to worry about the troubles of our Earthly lives!

  5. What are three words to best describe you?

    Funny, Hard-working, and Determined

  6. What was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

Going through high school and college I worked at a family owned bakery (Cakes by Stephanie). At first I just washed dishes, but by 19 years old I was baking and delivering wedding cakes! I delivered wedding cakes all over the Detroit area, even some up here in Macomb!

  7. Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?

Well, when you work for 5 1/2 years at a bakery you pick up some stuff! I am a really good baker. I can tell if a cake is done cooking just by touching it with my finger!

  8. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?

I think telekinesis would be extremely convenient. I could grade papers with just my mind!

  9. What’s your favorite food?

Anything with chicken is always may favorite! I tend to like grilled chicken the most!

  10. What’s your least favorite food?

Spicy food and I don't mix! I like my food on the milder side.

  11. What’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled and why?

This past summer my wife and I went to Traverse City for our honeymoon! Northern Michigan (including the U.P.) is amazing in the summer. It is an great place to experience the beauty of God's creation.

  12. Where would you like to travel next and why?

One big bucket list item I have is to see the Aurora Borealis in person. Its always intrigued me since I first learned about it in science class.

  13. What’s a fun fact about you many people may not know?

I love learning about history! I originally wanted to add a history minor to my degree. It would have taken me longer to graduate from CUAA, so I decided not to pursue it.

  19. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

"Even if you do your best in everything there are some things that are out of your control, let God take care of those things and focus on the things that you can change." This is something that my mom always tells me when I'm stressed about something.

  20. Is there any advice you’d offer to current and future Lutheran North students?

Make sure you always consider if what you say/do may be hurtful to another person. Just because you mean it a jokingly and the other person laughs does not mean it didn't hurt. Gossip is a huge part of this, If its not your business don't make it your business.
