When asked Who influenced you the most in your academic career, Leyna answered:

Sally Buss, my eighth grade teacher. She not only taught me academically, but showed me what is truly important: loving others and being aware of the struggles of those around you and across the world. She taught me so much about God's love and gave me the opportunity to show that love on a two-week mission trip to Guatemala. I have never met such a humble person with such a huge servant's heart and what she taught me in and out of the classroom is worth more than I can even imagine.
