Coronavirus Update from The Superintendent

The online learning environment has had its challenges for our teachers, our students, and our families.  There have been disappointments already and losing the last two months of being together in our school hallways is jarring.  But we have dedicated ourselves to remain a family of brothers and sisters in Christ!  A family within our system of secondary education with the foundation of faith in Christ!  We will continue to educate our students through remote classes!  We will continue to communicate with you!  We will continue to help you through this unique environment!  We will continue to share the Gospel! Thank you for your patience and confidence as we face this together.  What a great opportunity for us to truly learn what it means to have faith in our Heavenly Father; and to be used by God to lead those around us to the saving truth of His Word!

As many of us expected, the Governor has announced the closure of all K-12 school buildings for the remainder of the school year.  However, while we cannot return to the school buildings, we will continue to offer Christian education through the online platforms that we have set up.  Our teachers are committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure their students continue to learn.

With all of this in mind, the LHSA has developed a plan for finishing the 2019-20 school year.  Please review the points below that pertain to when online classes resume on April 14th.

  1. Our LHSA schools will continue with online classes that will count toward instructional hours & academic credit.  The Michigan Association of Non-public Schools has confirmed this instruction is valid.

  2. No online classes on Mondays in May (4, 11, 18, 25).  These Mondays should be used by teachers to continue to work on their online curriculum, grade online content, prep for the week ahead, etc.  Students can use these Mondays to review, focus on work that is due, and get away from screens!

  3. The last day of classes will be Friday, May 29th.

  4. There will be no final exams.  Second-semester grades will be based on 50% third-quarter & 50% fourth quarter.

  5. Seniors last day of online class will be May 22, 2020.

  6. Service hours:  The service hour graduation requirement for the senior class of 2020 will be waived due to current circumstances.  Requirements for returning students will be reviewed and modified if necessary as we return to school in the fall of 2020.

  7. Spring Events:  Unfortunately, the closure of schools in Michigan also means that many school events, including spring sports, that would take place in the spring will be canceled.  Our administrative team will be meeting to discuss the possibility of rescheduling and/or modifying graduation.  We will keep you informed as this continues to develop.

  8. Summer Events:  Activities that would normally take place in June will be reviewed and as we get further into spring and monitor the progress of our country, state, and local communities we will be able to make decisions regarding those events.

My prayers are with all our families as we work through this together.  God’s peace as you prepare to celebrate the resurrection!
